Enrollment for New Students
The School for ARTs in Learning (SAIL) is a Kindergarten through 8th grade public charter school.

Charter schools are independently-operated public schools that are open to all District residents, regardless of their neighborhood, socioeconomic status, academic achievement, or ethnicity. There are no admission tests or tuition fees. Parents and students choose to attend a particular charter school because of its unique focus, curriculum, structure, size, environment and other features that meet the needs of those families.

Eligibility

You can apply to SAIL if:

•    You reside in the District of Columbia.
•    Your child is eligible to attend Kindergarten
(must be five years old by December 31, 2010) through 8th grade in September 2010

Application Process

SAIL is currently accepting applications for new students for the 2010-2011 school year.

Download an application for new students here.

Completing an application does not guarantee enrollment for SAIL. Applications for new students will be given a number and selected randomly during a lottery on Thursday, July 1 at 10:00am at SAIL's Small Gallery on the first floor.

The number of available slots will be determined by the number of students who either transfer out of SAIL or if current parents fail to submit a pre-enrollment application by Wednesday, June 30. These limited numbers and all Kindergarten spaces will be allocated using the random lottery process.

If SAIL administrators select an application and the parent does not respond, SAIL will make three attempts to allow the parent to enroll the child while working down the list. If a number is disconnected, SAIL will attempt to contact parents using other contact details on the form, for example by e-mail.

All enrollment paperwork for new students must be completed one week from the first verbal contact. Failure to complete enrollment paperwork within one week may result in forfeiture of the slot.
